Fear and Loathing in Northwest Arkansas

My name is Johnathan Cleghorn. Often, I find it hard to introduce myself after some time has passed in a conversation, so, that's out of the way. I am writing because I have to. Not because of a grade, but because I want to grow. I want to be a better writer. I want what I’m feeling to translate clearly.

I am dreadfully tired at the moment. I got up at 6:30 to go to work and it’s odd, because I work at a coffee house, but yet, here I am, wanting to sleep . I want to drift away while surrounded by soft sheets and the smell of febreeze.

I feel the need to add meaning to everything I do. I want there to be a purpose as to why I do what I do. I want to be a writer. Sort of. I’ve always hated the idea of writing because I was discouraged at a young age. I felt like I could never write down the right thing.

I want to get to the bottom of what’s hindering me. Honestly, I think it’s me. But that’s not a good enough answer. I want to be a story-teller. And, I am. I tell stories all the time. But when I want to write them down, I can never get it right. I want to convey the same emotion I do with my speech in my writing. (Can you tell I’m really tired? If so, I’m off to a good start).

I want this to be a conversation. Unfortunately, I can’t hear you. Just talk louder.

I just got done learning about Hunter S. Thompson. I’ve heard of him before, but man, that guy was crazy. I suggest learning about him. My question is, though, how in the world did he, out of all the writers in the world, get to be so famous? Admittedly, I haven’t read much of his material, so I might have a change of heart later on when I do, but for right now, I’m still confused. He had a very conversational tone, like I do, but he also did enormous amounts of cocaine everyday, along with other substances, like I don’t. Maybe that’s what it takes. (I’m kidding mom). I feel like if he could do this writing thing, then I can too. That sounds pretentious, but I’ve been told a little bit of confidence isn’t a bad thing. So, yes, I can do this.

I can do this as long as I keep this up. So, if you liked this, then let me know. My email is on the “about” page. I hope to have a better structure for these posts when I start really getting into this.

Thanks 3000,

JC
